Notary Service
Dave and Ann Casey are both Maryland State Notaries commissioned in Anne Arundel County, so a Notary Public is on the premises during normal business hours.
No appointment is necessary, however our primary business is shipping and packaging. During the busy shipping times we may not be able to accommodate on the spot requests. We close promptly at the posted hours and may not be able to provide the service if you arrive at closing. We do not have the staff to provide any additional witnesses.
Questions about Notary Services
What is a notary? An official appointed by the State to serve the public as an impartial witness, with duties prescribed by law.
What does notarization mean?
Certification by an impartial witness that a signer has been screened and that an oath has been administered.
Can a Notary notarize a document that contains no notarial certificate?
They should not. It is not the notary's role to decide what type of notarial act is needed for a given document. This is a legal decision. The signer should be asked to find out what kind of certificate is appropriate. This information may be acquired by an attorney or by the issuing or receiving agencies of the document.
Can a notary certify a document, certificate, etc? A notary public has no authority to certify a copy of a public record, a publicly recorded document, a school record or diploma, a professional license, or any other public or private document or record which does not pertain to the notary public's official acts.
What are the limitations of notarization?
Notarization does not guarantee the truth or accuracy of statements in a document. The notary has no obligation to verify a document's contents. Notarization does not "legalize" or "validate" a document.
What forms of identification can be requested?
The best form of identification to use, is one which includes a photograph, signature and ideally a physical description. A valid driver's license is a good source of identification.
